By combining forces, we are building a global, research-based demonstration project that will change child welfare systems for orphans and abandoned children in each major culture of the world. It is the goal that this test project will result in permanent connections with caring adults for every child in the test communities, and leave a “recipe” for governments in how they can move children out of orphanages and into “permanency”. 2008 is a planning and fundraising year. Work is currently targeted for Colombia, Ethiopia, China, India and The Ukraine.
Kidsave’s partners in these efforts include the Joint Council for International Children’s Services, The University of Minnesota, The Better Care Network, Global Action for Children, The Worldwide Orphans Fund, the Institute for Human Services, The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, EQUAL, the National Council for Adoption and the Evan B. Donaldson Foundation. While some Coalition members are working to build a demonstration project, others are working on crafting legislation to increase US support to foreign governments interested in family preservation and permanent parental care for orphans.
With partner organizations that care about supporting orphans by permanent parental care and lasting connections with caring adults we believe we can begin to tackle the problem and capture the imagination of governments, child welfare systems, the public and the media. |
