Family Visit Model

Kidsave’s Family Visit Model combines best practices in social work and family recruiting to create caring, connected relationships for children without parents. It is the basis for professional child advocacy programs throughout the world, including the Los Angeles, California, and Washington, DC metro areas; Smolensk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia; and Bogota, Colombia.

The Family Visit Model draws from a broad base of research on orphaned and abandoned children's needs and how best to meet those needs. Unlike most adoption agency models that focus on finding children for families, Kidsave's model focuses on finding families for children.

Family Visits Plus Advocacy. Kidsave's model gives children a short-term visit with a host family in the community. Host families use their circles of friends to help the child meet people who might be possible adoptive families. Media and other communications channels are used to attract attention to these children

Mentoring. Literature shows that one connected, caring relationship with an adult will dramatically decrease violent crimes, increase school attendance and increase positive social interaction. Kidsave's model matches children with mentors who serve as friends and supporters.

Family Support. Throughout the adoption and post-adoption process, families and children receive the support of social workers, therapists and other professionals to help them manage the transition for the child.
