What a grin! Malik is the kind of kid that will have you at first glance, with an exuberant personality and a love of companionship. Malik is quite the extrovert, and is sure to keep you entertained with stories of his escapades and the things that excite him.

When it comes to the things Malik loves, music is top on his list. Malik takes drum classes at his school and loves to learn new rhythms and play along with the class. He also has his own keyboard that he enjoys using to invent new songs and melodies. Not only does Malik love to drum and sing, but he was the star performer in the Christmas concert at his school this year! He definitely enjoys being in the limelight, and has great charisma.

Malik also loves to be challenged and is a sucker for a mystery…puzzles, clues, treasure hunts, anything that allows him to play detective is right up his alley. He has an incredibly sharp mind and will constantly amaze you with the things he remembers and his attention to detail. Malik is also learning the responsibility of being a leader, and thrives when he is put in a leadership position.

But don’t let all that fool you, Malik is still a pretty typical 10 year old boy who loves sports and will proudly tell you how fast he can run! He enjoys kick ball and softball and generally being out doors and playing with his peers.

To top it all off, Malik can be quite the gentleman and has a wonderful, sweet disposition.  He has often been known to open doors for others, and is quick with a please and a thank you. But perhaps one of the things that is most delightful about Malik is that he would actually rather spend time with people than play video games or watch TV! Malik would choose to play a game of Chutes and Ladders or put together a great puzzle with an attentive adult rather than sitting in front of a TV screen pretty much any day. More than anything, Malik would love to have a caring and devoted adult in his life to spend time teaching him, encouraging him, challenging him, puzzling him, and believing in all he has to offer the world.

Melinda is a seventeen year old who is shy in the beginning but easily wins over anyone’s heart.  She likes to dance, listen to music and participate in sports like soccer and basketball, and will last longer than anyone on the courts!  Her favorite football team is the Oakland Raiders. She also enjoys watching and collecting High School Musical posters.
 
Melinda’s compassionate and loving heart is guided by her faith in God.  She prays and likes to go to church to meet new people. Once she opens up, she can be chatty and spunky, and her bilingual language skills in both Spanish and English allow her to connect with an array of people. She enjoys being surrounded by large families who are active and like to go places and try new things.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Nathan will tell you what great energy he has! Nathan is an outgoing young man who is quick to engage whoever he is talking to, and who loves to share his thoughts and interests…and Nathan definitely has many interests! Nathan says that he loves sports of all varieties, but is especially a fan of basketball and football (and he throws a pretty impressive spiral!). Nathan also talks like a budding outdoorsman, who loves swimming, biking and riding dune buggies in the desert. When Nathan is not busy with sports, he loves to draw and is quite an artist. Nathan is a bright young man, and has a quick mind which shines through in his interaction with others.  Most of all, Nathan says that he is looking forward to having a family that will spend quality time with him. He hopes to find a family that will share all of his special moments with him…one that will support him in doing the things he already loves, and will introduce him to new and exciting experiences!

Danielle is a girl of diverse interests. Some of her favorite activities include drawing, weaving, dancing, drill team, reading the Bible, listening to R&B or jazz lyrical music, playing baseball, rooting for the Dodgers and sleeping. Whew! Who wouldn't need a nap after that list? 

Danielle is articulate, thoughtful, and serene with a gentle sense of humor. She does well in school and especially enjoys geometry, science, drama, and history. Shocking as it may seem, Danielle likes homework. One day she'd like to be Dr. Danielle helping children to be healthy in her work as a pediatrician. 

Danielle is a responsible older sister and part of a dynamic duo. Sometimes sisters disagree, but these two are sure of one thing, keep Danielle and her sister Hailey (see below) together!

Danielle is dreaming of a college educated, Christian family, that will support her in maintaining contact with her friends and relatives and help her to reach her aspirations. Hailey is all heart and soul. Harmonizing with the children's choir at church or singing along to her favorite High School Musical tune, you'll be president of the this spunky star's fan club in a hop, skip and a jump of your heartbeat. Our little 10-year-old sparkplug delights in laughter and jokes, and becomes a fast friend over a few shared giggles.

A devotee of all things related to High School Musical, Hailey's interests include song, dance and a dream of learning to play the piano. When she is all grown up Hailey will be on stage or film, entertaining others with musical or dramatic talent. Prone to a little shyness and stage-fright, Hailey does not quit and is working hard to overcome her nervousness over solo performances.

After the show Hailey would like a dinner of candy. On the off chance you don't believe in desert first, other favorite foods include deluxe supreme pizza, chicken tenders, or shrimp. But don't worry; Hailey also fuels up on salads and broccoli to keep her going through her active day.

Favorite sports are basket ball and tetherball and Hailey hopes to learn tennis. She also makes a great captain and enjoys stepping out from under the shadow of big-sis, 11-year-old Danielle, to take the lead among peers. 

Although both Danielle and Hailey agree that having their own rooms would make them even better friends, they adore each other and must be adopted together. Hailey and Danielle enjoy connections to their elderly grandparents, close friends in their church community, and a strong bond with their foster mother. Ideally these sisters would enjoy the best of both worlds with a permanent family to love that will also keep them connected to those that already provide love and support.

Outgoing and animated, Jacob is happy to set aside his wrestling action figures to spend some time chatting and sharing the highlights of his day. A natural playing with children his age at the park or riding bikes, Jacob is also able to get down on the floor with younger children and patiently push around toy cars or other games his littler friends might want to play.

Perpetually cheerful and curious about the world around him, Jacob is impervious to the negative attitudes of others. A quality that many adult might be envious of, Jacob shows great resiliency in his capacity to ignore barbs or ill-intended criticisms and maintain his positive attitude.

Hip-Hop and R&B bring this gifted dancer to his feet. Once you convince our bashful boy to bust out his dance skills—be prepared to be dazzled. His perfect rhythm and easy flowing steps slip into pops, locks, and the splits with effortless grace.

DeShawn's academic interests are diverse, but he most enjoys exploring U.S. history and engaging in the hands on experiments of science class. He is also fascinated by computer science and plans to go to college. If his future career as a professional basketball player doesn't work out, he is strongly considering the tech industry as a second choice career path.

On game day you'll find him rooting for teams across the map. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Atlanta Falcons are all team jerseys he'd proudly wear. But when it comes time for dinner he is all regional loyalty and southern soul foods like gumbo or jambalaya will have DeShawn cheering for more.

As DeShawn becomes more independent and takes on new responsibilities such as finding a summer job, he can see that there are many first steps he will be taking in the coming years. Mexican is Kaprea's favorite food, but she'll settle for pizza in a pinch if you'll hold the artichokes.

Don't confuse this future gourmet with a fast-food junkie. Kaprea is not-so-secretly obsessed with the Food Network and dreams of being a chef. Her favorite cooking shows are "Paula’s Home Cooking" and the artsy "Ace of Cakes." Sign her up for a cooking class or share some of your own kitchen wizardry. It is easy to make friends while cleaning the last of the cake batter from the bowl!

Kaprea is ready to squeal with her friends at the next scary movie, but at home you'd best pass her a box of tissue. You're apt to find her watching Titanic for the umpteenth time! A fan of various genres, no teeny-bopper actors will be receiving an Oscar from Kaprea. Her top film prizes go to Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman, revealing a maturing interest in more dramatic films.

At school Kaprea provides the entertainment as she dazzles classmates with her crisp hip hop moves on the dance team. She is happiest when listening to the romantic crooning of Chris Brown or the dapper Ne-Yo. Lend a hand with some of her trickier math homework and you’ll really bring a smile to her face.

Blessed with the athletic grace of the natural, if you're speedy you might catch up with this quick runner racing around a track or going long for the pass in a pick-up game of football.

Worn out from the whirl of activities? Not, Tawanesha! Put your feet up while she whips up some "Hamburger Helper" — her favorite comfort food. This budding chef is happy to share her creations and would love to cook up some fun in the kitchen with you. Always eager to learn, do you have some new recipes and cooking techniques you could share with Tawanesha?

In her free time she tunes her radio to rap and hip-hop or Tawanesha might be found sketching or practicing her crotchet. On movie night she'll be watching something scary, but would feel braver with a pet dog of her own to cuddle up with on the couch.

Tawanesha's heart melts for furry friends — especially dogs. One day she would like to combine her affinity with animals and her interest in science as a veterinarian, nursing sick animals back to health.

More than anything Tawanesha would like to embark on the adventure of belonging to a permanent family. She is willing to relocate out of state if needed (always ready for travel), but would like to keep connections with local extended relatives and friends.

Kind and intelligent, Richard is a 13-year-old young man of Caucasian descent. He is very attuned to other's feelings and has a lot of love to give. Like most children his age, Richard loves video games, watching television and participating in sports. If he can participate in a game with prizes, he would give it all to win. The prizes he collects are not for himself but for other foster children in the group home where he resides. Generosity is one of Richard’s exceptional qualities. It was also recently discovered the Richard is quite the entertainer! Given a podium, Richard will entertain those around him by singing and dancing. He has quite the singing voice!

Richard is currently in the 7th grade in a special education school that he attends at his residential facility. He struggles with reading and writing and benefits from the academic support and individual attention that he receives. He is receiving therapeutic services that have been helping him cope with his feelings of abandonment and loss. 

With the support and nurturing from the right family Richard will flourish to his full potential. More than anything, Richard wants a family to call his own.

Richard, who likes to go by "Ricky" is a handsome and intelligent 14-year-old boy who has a passion for two things — spending time at the beach or on the computer. Born in 1992, Ricky dreams of becoming a computer programmer one day. His other interests include skateboarding, playing basketball and swimming. He recently had a chance to use a digital camera for the first time and he's a natural photographer! He loves to learn new things and when introduced to something interesting and challenging, he becomes completely engaged. 

Ricky looks forward to becoming part of a permanent family who can provide him with all the love, support and encouragement that he needs to become a happy and successful adult.

Those who meet Ember are likely to remember Ember. Born in 1992, this outgoing and spirited young lady dreams of becoming a police officer one day or making it in the entertainment industry. Ember does well in school and is particularly proud of her academic achievements. She has lots of charisma and is a natural when posing for photographs. Ember enjoys many typical "teenager" things like hanging out with friends and listening to music. She is also athletic and plays basketball, football, soccer and is currently on the volleyball team.

Can you say "Kaysenura, Hip-Hop Hula-Hoop Queen" three times fast? At just 9 years of age, this adorable girl has mastered the art of the hula-hoop and will challenge anyone to a hula-hooping contest! Kaysenura, who often goes by "Kay Kay," also loves music and is somewhat shy to admit that she has a passion for singing. Hip-hop is her favorite type of music and she loves to make up her own lyrics. Kaysenura's other interests range from reading and watching TV to going to adventure parks and riding every rollercoaster there. 

Born in 1997, Kaysenura is currently in the fourth grade and is proud to report that she is at the top of her class academically! This well-rounded girl's favorite subjects include math and art and she already has plans to attend college one day. While she knows that she has plenty of time to decide what she would like to do when she grows up, she seems to have grasped the importance of education at an early age.

Kaysenura is very eager to become part of a loving and permanent family and her sweet and warm nature would be a great asset to any family able to nurture and support her. Within a loving and permanent home, Kaysenura, Hip-Hop Hula-Hoop Queen, can continue to reign -- and shine!

It doesn't take long to realize Eclasia is a special young lady. The "E" in Eclasia's name should stand for enthusiasm, as she possesses so much of it! "Clay" (as she likes to be called) is a warm, engaging and intelligent teenager who was born in 1991. She will gladly tell you about all the things in life that she enjoys - everything from eating, singing, and dancing to reading, talking on the phone with friends and 'surfing the web'. In fact, there are very few things that Eclasia does not enjoy! Well, there is math... a subject she would prefer avoiding entirely but knows doing so is not an option. English is definitely her favorite school subject and she prides herself on her academic achievements in this area. 

Eclasia describes herself as "silly, fun and lovable" and she dreams of attending college and traveling. She hopes to find a family that can love and support her goals and dreams as well as share her wonderful enthusiasm for life.

Aaron, born in 1993, absolutely loves to talk about basketball and would love the opportunity to attend a Clippers game. He also enjoys other activities such as playing baseball and video games. Aaron is in the eighth grade and is very proud of his good grades. Math and reading are his favorite subjects. When asked what he would like to do when he grows up, he states that he would like to be a policeman. Aaron has very specific (and expensive) taste when it comes to the type of car he would like to have one day, stating (without hesitation) "a Ferrari."

Meet Eric, age 13, a charismatic African American boy with an inquiring mind. This bright child possesses an overall interest in learning about new things and he loves to ask questions. Eric enjoys school and is currently in the 7th grade. He reports that his favorite subjects are spelling and math. Even now, at age 13, he is already talking about his desire to go to college. He states, "I know that lots of kids don't want to go to college, but I do."

Eric is also compassionate by nature. When asked about what he would like to be when he grows up, he reports that he wants to help other people. After a moment’s reflection, he adds, "Who knows, maybe I'll be President one day!" 

Eric just loves being the center of attention, too. He enjoys a number of different sports, particularly basketball, soccer and track, and proudly boasts about his skills. He is also happy to demonstrate his athletic abilities for all those interested and hopes to find a future family that is also active. 

Eric can relate well to both adults and peers. He would do well in a home where he is the only child and looks forward to having a permanent family that will guide and love him unconditionally. Inquiring minds want to know, are you the adoptive family for Eric?

Born in April of 1992, Samuel is a very intelligent Hispanic-Caucasian boy. He is polite and well mannered with an easy smile. Samuel has made great progress, both socially and academically. He is particularly proud of his academic accomplishments, and has a special interest in learning more about astronomy. "I like learning about all the different planets. Maybe I’ll be an astronomer one day." One of Samuel's favorite activities is reading. When he is not reading, he enjoys various sports such as basketball, baseball and soccer. Of course, there's always his Gameboy to provide entertainment when he is not engaging in his other activities. 

Samuel enjoys making friends and he likes acting like a big brother to younger kids. He also gets along well with adults. Samuel has a younger brother that he does not live with, but would like to maintain contact with. 

When asked what kind of family Samuel would like to have, he has no particular preferences other than wanting a family that really cares for him and will help prepare him for adulthood.

Lon is an adorable and engaging child. Born in 1994, Lon's bright smile, big brown eyes, and sunny disposition will capture your heart. He is residing in a group home, and has no problem getting along with adults and peers. Lon absolutely loves being outside and practicing his skateboarding skills. He's still working on being able to go from kneeling to standing on it, but he's not giving up! Some of his other favorite pastimes include playing with his Gameboy and watching action/adventure movies. Lon considers himself an expert on anything having to do with the Titanic. Ask him any question about it, and he will surely have the answer. He loves reading about all sorts of ships, but the history of the Titanic is his most favorite subject.
