In the District of Columbia there are more than
200 children in foster care who have a goal of adoption but do not
have an identified adoptive family. Sixty-percent are age 13 or older.
Help give a child the greatest gift imaginable – the opportunity
to have a permanent family – and become a Weekend Miracles
host parent.
Kidsave’s Weekend Miracles program offers older children
in foster care the opportunity to enjoy visits with a family in the
community. Host parents welcome a child into their home for a series
of weekends where they get to know each other in a comfortable, relaxed
and nurturing environment. Then, through advocacy efforts and by
introducing the child to their circle of friends, host families help
that child find an adoptive family.
Weekend Miracles is a partnership between Kidsave and the District
of Columbia Child and Family Services Agency. Partial funding is
provided by the US Department of Health and Human Services through
an Adoption Opportunities cooperative agreement, "Project Adopt
Older Kids (A-OK!)."
