Weekend Miracles is an innovative program that provides foster youth the opportunity to meet people interested in mentoring, hosting or adopting older children. The children in the program are some of the 300 plus teenagers in the District of Colombia foster care system in need of a permanent family. Since older children are more likely to be adopted by someone they know, Weekend Miracles Family Events and advocacy activities fill a critical role of helping these children meet interested caring adults. Weekend Miracles is run by DC Family and Youth Initiative and Kidsave supports advocacy for the kids.

How to get involved
Become a Weekend Miracles Host Parent: Host parents welcome a child into their home for weekend visits and through advocacy and events, help other adults meet the child and learn of his/her desire to be adopted. Expanding the circle of individuals who know (or know of) the child makes it more likely that we will find an adoptive family for the child.

Become a Weekend Miracles Mentor: Mentors provide a long-term commitment to a child, seeing them regularly and providing another source of support.
Become a Weekend Miracles Advocate: Advocates help children find adoptive families by speaking with other adults, sharing information and planning activities where interested adults can meet the children.
Become a Weekend Miracles Volunteer: Volunteers are always needed to help organize events, help with program promotion and more.
Want to learn more? Attend a Weekend Miracles Orientation as well as our Weekend Miracles Family Events. Family Events are held each month and provide adults and youth the opportunity to meet in a relaxed, fun environment.
