Meet the LA Kids Needing Families

If you are interested in learning more about any of the children needing families, please contact Lauren Reicher Gordon at Lauren@kidsave.org

Maricela

LA Weekend MiraclesMaricela, who prefers to be called “Mari,” is an intelligent, soft-spoken, funny and friendly sixteen year old girl. Instead of spending her time on the internet or texting like most teenagers do, Mari focuses on her schoolwork and extracurricular activities as she plans on one day attending UCLA and studying forensics.

After just one conversation with Mari one can see her maturity shine through. She loves to talk about her love for music which ranges from classical artists such as Mozart and Bach to current popular music such as hip-hop and R&B. Mari is not one to just sit back and listen to music on the radio. She takes her love of music to the next level as she has been a member of her school band for a number of years. She participates in national and regional competitions and even has a couple of first prize awards under her belt!

Mari’s diverse taste extends beyond her taste in music. She enjoys hands-on activities such as baking, cooking and scrapbooking but is also not afraid to get her hands dirty and partake in outdoor activities. Mari is a well- rounded all around great kid. Mari has been in the system for a number of years and was in a stable placement for the majority of that time. However, recently things have changed and while Mari has adjusted quite well she definitely needs the love and support from caring and understanding adults.

Maricela is currently being hosted by a family through Kidsave who is partnering to find her an adoptive family.

Tawanesha

LA Weekend MiraclesTawanesha is a traveler at heart, just waiting for wings to begin an adventure. How about a trip to Belize? Just give our fashion forward friend a few minutes to pack her favorite clothes (sure to include some pink). Equally open to new faces, places, or learning a skill, this enthusiastic 15-years-old explorer has no trouble finding captivating opportunities without leaving the ground.

Tawanesha ranks the school subjects of science and art as the most stimulating and engaging, but also has a passion for writing and a hankering to try her hand at journalism. Blessed with the athletic grace of the natural, if you're speedy you might catch up with this quick runner racing around a track or going long for the pass in a pick-up game of football. In her free time she tunes her radio to rap and hip-hop or might be found sketching or practicing her crotchet. Tawanesha's heart melts for furry friends and one day she would like to combine her affinity with animals and her interest in science as a veterinarian, nursing sick animals back to health.

More than anything Tawanesha would like to embark on the adventure of belonging to a permanent family. She is willing to relocate out of state if needed (always ready for travel), but would like to keep connections with local extended relatives and friends.

Tawanesha is currently being hosted on the weekends by a family who is partnering with Kidsave to find her an adoptive family.

David

LA Weekend MiraclesSweetheart. That’s the best word to describe 16-year-old David. He is a sweet and engaging young man. He may appear to be shy and reserved, but once he gets to know you better, David is very expressive and fun to be around. He loves football and he’s happy to be playing it, watching it or reading about it. He is currently in the 10th grade. David does have learning disabilities and he does struggle with school at times. But that hasn’t dissuaded him from wanting to get a double major in music and business when he finishes high school. David dreams of having a career in the music industry. But not as a singer or musician. He wants to work on the production and management side. That way he can enjoy two things he really likes, music and leadership.

David can have a very outgoing personality, but he does particularly well in smaller settings. He responds very well to individual attention and would love to have someone to help him practice his studies. He longs for a family that is dedicated to providing him with love and structure. He’s worried that his time is running out because he will be seventeen soon. But it’s not too late. David can still have the forever family that he deserves. David has learned the importance of family connections. He recently had contact with his mother for the first time and would like to continue to have contact with her. He’s eager to have a forever family and he wouldn’t mind having some siblings too.

David is looking for an adoptive family or a host family who will help him find an adoptive family.

Ashley

LA Weekend MiraclesAshley is an engaging youth with a sense of adventure and compassion for others.  Born in 1994 this energetic youth enjoys music, fashion, and movies.  Despite her love for the girly things in life, Ashley also finds joy in camping and hiking and spending time in the outdoors.

Ashley is social and makes friends easily.  The other girls in her group home consider her their peer therapist. A loyal friend and kind listener, it is not hard to see why others are drawn to this vivacious youth.

Ashley is also intelligent and quite capable of doing well in school.  One day Ashley hopes to be a fabulously famous actress.  But if that plan doesn’t work out, practical Ashley has a backup plan and would also like to be an ultrasound technician.

An ideal afternoon for Ashley involves shopping, Sushi, and laughter with friends and family. But Ashley is searching for a family for more than just fun times.  She very much wants to start a first job and begin more serious planning for her future.  Ashley really needs to experience that feeling of belonging somewhere and being settled.

Ashley is currently hosted by a family who is in partnership with Kidsave.

Lizbeth

LA Weekend MiraclesLizbeth is an enthusiastic, energetic and playful nine year old girl. She is all smiles once you get her talking about things she enjoys. Lizbeth comes alive when she’s playing outside. She especially enjoys soccer. She loves music and dancing but says that she mostly listens to hip hop. She likes to play games. Her favorite subjects in school are science and math and she enjoys learning about plants and animals. Lizbeth has siblings with whom she likes to visit in the Los Angeles area. Lizbeth is a fantastic kid who really needs a family to give her a permanent home. Can it be yours?

Lizbeth is looking for an adoptive family or a host family who will partner with him to find an adoptive family.

Christian and Moises

LA Weekend MiraclesChristian and Moises are two polite and sweet young brothers who are part of a larger sibling group. Christian and Moises are the youngest and are currently unable to live together and therefore cannot see each other as much as they would like to. When they do spend time together, however, you can see that the physical distance has not dissipated the brotherly bond that they share.

Christian is an avid Star Wars fan and is more quiet and reserved whereby Moises considers himself to be more outdoorsy and active. Moises plays soccer and likes to keep up with the trends at his middle school such as sporting a stylish spiky haircut. While on the surface the boys seem to be as different as night and day, in reality they both share a sweet demeanor and calm nature that comes through within a few minutes of interacting with them. Sure the Medina boys argue like all siblings do but at the end of the day they compromise and make up knowing that family comes first. The boys would love to be able to live together again like they once used to. Could you make their dream a reality?

Christian and Moises are looking for an adoptive family or a host family who will partner with them to find an adoptive family.

Ninka, Lafayette and Shirley

LA Weekend MiraclesNinka’s smile can melt the “Ice in Iceland.” Her captivating personality greets you instantly and you’ll find yourself engaged at once. Ninka describes herself as being a nice and calm young lady who likes basketball, cooking and cleaning. She has a quiet yet outspoken charm about her and is reflective and treasures fond memories of family and friends. She enjoys spending time with her siblings, just “clowning around” and having a fun time.

Ninka is learning more about herself and what she finds to be interesting. She is self-motivated and says that she wants to “help people” as a career goal. Ninka responds well when she has caring, supportive and encouraging people around her to offer advice and direction, and will take to heart those important “pieces of advice” that come her way. She is focused on accomplishing her future goals of completing school and working with people. Ninka is an average student who likes going to school. Like many young teens, her biggest challenge is balancing the time spent between school and friends. She does not participate in any afterschool sports or club activities but is very open to engaging in weekend activities.

Ninka would thrive in a home that offers stability, nurturing, guidance and a lot of love.

LA Weekend MiraclesLafayette will delight you with his infectious smile, wit and humor. He appears shy at first but is really very outgoing, clever and funny. Lafayette has an adventurous spirit and likes to explore and participate in new experiences. He also values friendships and keeping connected to important people in his life. He shares a close bond with his siblings and likes to spend as much time as possible with them. He has a very good memory and is able to recall special moments in his life, and he never forgets a good friend!

Lafayette has an interest in sports and wants to keep physically fit. During the football and basketball seasons, you’ll most likely find him watching sports although he’d much rather be playing. He is contemplating trying out for a sports team in the near future. Lafayette is making good progress in school. He is a bright student and is encouraged by teachers and adults to apply himself consistently. He has aspiration of attending college but is not quite sure what direction he would take. He also said that is proud to follow the footsteps of his older sibling and may enlist into the military after graduating high school.

If you have an adventuresome spirit and enjoy the outdoors, you’d enjoy getting to know Lafayette.

LA Weekend MiraclesShirley, born in 1994, is the eldest of the siblings. She has both a quick wit and a sense of humor that will grab you by surprise! Shirley likes to take her time in getting to know someone, but when she warms up, you’ll find yourself engaged and amused. Shirley’s independence and curiosity are two of her great strengths. She likes to explore, try new experiences and question circumstances as they arise. Shirley will stand up for what she feels is “right” and this virtue has gained the respect of her peers, two younger siblings, and adults alike.

Shirley attends school and is an average student. She balances her time between school, friends and family. Shirley is responsible for her assignments and is self-motivated to complete what’s expected of her. She in not involved in any extracurricular activities but has a host of interests that she’d love to explore with a host or adoptive family. After spending some quality time with her, you will learn that her hidden talents range from a zest for music and drama to cosmetology and braiding hair.

It would be great to find a family willing to invest quality time in getting to know Shirley and exposing her to new and exciting experiences. Let us know if you would like to nurture this young teen’s life.

These three siblings are willing to be hosted by separate families but would like to be adopted together by a family.
