Project Warm for the Winter: A Kidsave’s Angels of Hope Initiative

Kidsave’s Angels of Hope and We Stand With Ukraine are working to prepare children and families in Ukraine for winter.

Because of extensive damage to Ukraine’s power grid, thousands are living without consistent heat and power. Additionally, millions of homes have been damaged or destroyed due to constant missile strikes and air raids, forcing families to live in basements, rooms without windows or roofs, and wherever they can find some means of shelter.

As fall fades into winter, the temperatures are steadily dropping, and the first snowfall is expected to hit Mykolaiv in the next week. The average temperature in Mykolaiv overnight in the winter is 23 degrees Fahrenheit (-5 degrees Celsius). Without a means for power and heat, we fear that many will not survive the winter.

Project Warm for the Winter will provide winter supplies to more than 500 people in the Mykolaiv region in the coming weeks. Our Angels of Hope and We Stand With Ukraine volunteers will assemble and deliver home repair kits containing tarps, plywood, planks, and tools to help people fortify their homes against the cold. This team will also provide the people with generators, wood-burning stoves, firewood, blankets, and winter clothing to help keep them warm.

Thanks to your continued support, this effort is already underway! Our goal for this first initiative is to provide warmth for 500 people in the Mykolaiv region, but thousands more need our help! With your support, we can expand this effort to meet the needs of more children and families this winter.
