At Kidsave, we’re grateful to see foster youth getting national attention and meaningful resources. Helping young people who are aging out find safe, stable housing is essential, and we welcome any effort that shines a light, and a lifeline, on what they’re facing at that critical point.
What we see every day, though, is that so many teens still leave care without the permanent relationships that make adulthood manageable. As the First Lady notes, nearly 20,000 young people age out each year without a family connection, and that’s an enormous lift for any young person to carry alone.
As an organization dedicated to helping older youth in foster care build meaningful, lasting relationships with caring adults, Kidsave supports efforts like Mrs. Trump’s that aim to ensure these youth can grow into happy, productive adults with the support systems they deserve.
Our hope is that this moment opens the door to an even broader conversation—one that includes reaching teens earlier and helping them build the family ties and committed adult relationships that can truly change the trajectory of their lives. When education, housing support and family connections go hand-in-hand, that’s when young people have their best shot at the stability and future they deserve.
