Abraham and Greg Gonzales of West Covina want to eventually adopt. Roxanne Badry of Whittier doesn’t have any kids herself but has a background in child development and loves being around them.

It’s why all three are among 12 families in Southern California this summer hosting a total of 14 Colombian older children who eventually could be staying in America permanently.

It’s all part of Kidsave, an 11-year-old program that tries to find American homes for orphans from a number of countries, including Colombia.

“It’s been eye-opening – just to know the stories of these children and how important it is for us to find them homes and the urgency about that,” Greg Gonzales said of hosting 13-year-old Paula, whose last name is not released by the program.

“They’re only here a short time (June 28 to Aug. 3),” he said. “There’s only a short time for prospective families to get to to see them.”
