Ten years ago, in 2015, a small group gathered in Los Angeles for the very first Hike With Your Heart. What began as a local walk for change has grown into a nationwide tradition. Now, a decade later, Kidsave is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Hike With Your Heart with events in four cities: Houston, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Washington, D.C. 

Four Cities, One Mission 

This October, our hikes will take place in these iconic locations: 

  • Houston – Saturday, Oct. 18 at Sugar Land Memorial Park 
  • Bay Area – Saturday, Oct. 25 at Los Gatos Creek Trail 
  • Los Angeles – Saturday, Oct. 25 at Kenneth Hahn State Park 
  • Washington, D.C. – Saturday, Oct. 25 on the National Mall, with a route from the Smithsonian metro stop to the Lincoln Memorial and back.

Whether you join solo, with family, with friends, or even with your pets, every step brings us closer to the ultimate goal: helping older kids in foster care find lasting connections and forever families. 

Why It Matters 

Hike With Your Heart raises vital support for Kidsave's Weekend Miracles and Summer Miracles programs. These unique models connect older kids in care with caring adults through fun, low-pressure activities that allow authentic relationships to grow — and from those bonds, mentoring, advocacy, and adoption often follow. 

As Kidsave CEO Randi Thompson explains, "These hikes are a joyful way for communities to get involved and help change a child's future." 

The results speak for themselves. In 2024 alone, more than 600 participants across four cities helped raise $80,000 to support Kidsave's work. Thousands of kids over the past 25 years have found mentors, families, and healing through programs like these.
