“Being part of this has been an incredibly meaningful experience for us”
-Weekend Miracles Family

It’s been one year since we brought our life-changing Weekend Miracles program into the Commonwealth of Virginia, and we are excited to say the program has grown a lot since our first event. Over the last year, we have served 33 kids and counting. The success of this program wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support of local social workers and agencies, businesses and volunteers, and our growing Kidsave team.

Thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS), the Weekend Miracles program serves older kids and teens in foster care across Central and Northern Virginia. From Piedmont to Arlington, our program is connecting kids with caring adults to serve as mentors, hosts, and, someday soon, adoptive families.

Stephen Gilliard, Adoption Program Manager with the Division of Family Services, joined us for a spring event.

“The children and youth all enjoyed themselves and were engaged in the games and activities with the host families who attended,” he said. “The staff and volunteers provided a structured yet relaxed environment to make everyone comfortable. At the end, the youth had the opportunity to provide confidential feedback, which ensures this is youth-driven and empowers them to direct next steps in building relationships and connections. It was wonderful to see them feeling engaged and empowered all while being entertained.”

Our committed families have traveled from all over Virginia to spend time with the kids and participate in events. Whether it’s something as simple as playing cards or something more adventurous like climbing a rock wall, they are always ready to have fun and make memories with the kids.

Jim and Dayro are one of these dedicated families. “We’ve already met some wonderful kids, and we’re excited about the possibility of mentoring one of them soon,” they shared. “Being part of this has been an incredibly meaningful experience for us, and we are so grateful for the compassion, professionalism, and warmth the team brings to everything they do.”

In 2025, we expanded our team in Virginia to include Janeen Myers as our Weekend Miracles Virginia Program Manager.

“I am so grateful to serve and witness the incredible impact of the Weekend Miracles Program,” said Janeen . “In such a short time, the program has grown significantly, with new youth and families participating each month. I’ve had the privilege of seeing these meaningful connections flourish, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for and support lasting connections for even more kids in 2026.”

Meet the Kids

Due to regulations within Virginia, we cannot post or share photos of the kids, but you can learn more about them by visiting the Weekend Miracles Virginia Gallery or Virginia’s Kids Belong.

Of course, the best way to get to know them is to meet them at one of our events! See upcoming Weekend Miracles Virginia events and RSVP today.

We are also looking for great volunteers in Central and Northern Virginia to help with the program and transporting kids to and from events.
