Kidsave never slows down!

In Los Angeles, we resumed social distancing while we ride the Omicron wave.
But if 2020 taught us anything as a nonprofit, it taught us how to keep working toward our mission in unusual circumstances.

So, we pivoted back to a virtual event for our LA Weekend Miracles program over the weekend. Families and kids interacted with each other over Zoom from the comfort of their own homes. Together, they played word games like hangman and Pictionary and found ways to bond despite the distance! By regularly segmenting the group into breakout rooms, the kids and adults could immerse themselves in their games and conversation. Attendees who hadn’t experienced our former virtual events were pleasantly surprised by how engaging the event was!

One of the families in attendance, Sharon and Michael, took a moment to speak with us and share their feelings about the experience. “This is our 4th Kidsave event, and moving from live to virtual was actually a lot smoother than we expected,” Sharon and Michael say, “it was easy to enjoy and nice to see the kids in their home habitat.”

The kids enjoyed themselves, as well! Kids always seem to find a way to have fun – they can turn trips to the grocery store into epic adventures – but we’re still overjoyed to see their smiling faces at each of our events. They were great sports over the weekend, even if they might be tired of Zoom. Some kids made up their own games and suggested activities for future in-person events (skateboarding and bowling were popular demands). We’ll definitely be keeping track of those wishes!

We’re planning to have another virtual event within the next two weeks before – fingers crossed – we return to our regular in-person activities.
