Another Summer Miracles journey comes to an end! This week, all 43 kids who’ve traveled to the U.S. will return to Colombia. Each summer, Kidsave brings older kids from Colombia to the U.S. for a 5-week stay. We pair the kids with host families who either hope to adopt or will help the kids meet potential adoptive families. At the end of the stay, the kids return to Colombia – and families in the U.S. excitedly begin the adoption process. Learn more about these amazing kids by visiting our Summer Miracles gallery.

Over the past month, we’ve held fun “Meet the Kids” events in our communities across the country. Events where the kids had the chance to bond with their host families and families interested in adoption. Throughout July, we’ve enjoyed BBQs, NERF competitions, bubble soccer, tie-dye, arts & crafts, and other fun activities.

We held our most recent events in Southern California, New Jersey, and Maryland. We had a luau in Los Angeles (despite some unexpected rain), decorated cookies in D.C., and scrap-booked memories in New Jersey.

Los Angeles

We gathered in Lake Forest Sports Park in LA, ready for some luau-themed fun. But nature had a surprise in store! It’s not often we get a surprise torrential downpour in SoCal, but that’s precisely what happened. The sun quickly disappeared behind thick clouds as kids and families huddled together under canopies. Of course, being Kidsave, we made the most of it.

The kids played Connect Four, painted on tiny canvases, and even jumped in the rain. Families took advantage of the quiet moments to better get to know the kids. After a short while, the clouds began to part, and we celebrated with a delicious lunch and Hawaiian Punch.

“My brother introduced me to the Kidsave program,” says Summer Miracles host Cary, who’s been hosting 11-year-old Marina. “It’s truly been a beautiful summer, trying to help this sweet girl find a family and just having fun together.”

D.C.

Across the country in D.C., kids and families were busy decorating cookies. Few things are more fun than eating a delicious cookie, but decorating them with frosting comes pretty close.

The kids used frosting tubes, sprinkles, and other treats to make their edible art. Maybe they ate a little frosting while decorating – but we won’t tell.

New Jersey

In the New York Tri-State area, we’ve made enough summer memories to fill up a scrapbook, so that’s what we decided to do! The kids and their host families were able to spend quality time together as they put together a scrapbook of the summer, creating a precious keepsake they can cherish forever. It was the perfect way to end an unforgettable summer.
