Beneath the Texas sun and among the farm animals, older youth in foster care and caring adults came together at Vantage Point Farms in Tomball, Texas, to build meaningful relationships and connections. With beautiful weather, delicious food, engaging activities, and plenty of time spent with the horses, this Weekend Miracles event was full of unforgettable moments.
Weekend Miracles events provide youth in foster care with the opportunity to meet and connect with prospective mentors and adoptive families in a relaxed, pressure-free environment. Through shared activities, these events allow connections to develop naturally and allow older youth to have a say in who they would like to spend time with and get to know more. Vantage Point Farms generously provided their space for foster youth to build such connections.
One of the day’s biggest highlights was horseback riding, generously guided by staff of Vantage Point Farms. For many of the youth, it was their first time ever riding a horse which provided a teachable bonding moment for the kids and families.
While there were a few nervous faces at first, they quickly changed to confident smiles once everyone was in the saddle. By the end of the session, the kids were practically pros! But the fun did not stop there: next was Easter Egg hunting.
Kids and families teamed up to search for hidden eggs, exploring every corner of the property. Even staff joined in the fun and searched tirelessly for every egg left. Once they’d all been found and traded, all that searching had certainly worked up an appetite.
Guests enjoyed a shared meal of pizza, cookies, and cake. Lunch brought a different pace to the day. The kids got to spend time getting to know the adults and deepen their connection. Getting to know each other on a personal level and seeing the youth smiling is always the best part of these events.
After lunch, some of the kids played a game of football that kept the fun and excitement going well into the afternoon. The rest of the afternoon was spent with laughter, horse play (both literally and figuratively) and connections made well into the sunset.
For more than 16 years, Vantage Point Farms has welcomed guests with a shared love of horses, whether they are experienced riders or stepping into the barn for the first time. We are grateful for their generous sponsorship and continued support, which helps make events like this possible.
