A Family Meant to Be

On the mantle of the Coleman family home sits a framed photograph of hope and new beginnings. It's a photo of Tom and Jessie Coleman with their new son, Nicolas, age 12, taken as the Colemans first met Nicolas through 2019 Kidsave Summer Miracles. Recently, they picked up Nicolas in Colombia and brought him to his forever home in time to enjoy the holidays together.
This holiday season they are especially thankful for each other. Julie now has a different perspective on family than ever before “Family just loves you the way you are, with all your mistakes,” says Julie.
Since 2010, Kidsave has worked in Sierra Leone, getting more than 1,100 kids out of orphanages and into vetted families -- nearly always with kin.
As this forever family celebrates their journey to their first Holiday season, we wish them all the happiness and love of family and look forward to watching them experience many, many more 'firsts' together.
For anyone interested in adopting a child from foster care, John’s advice is to be patient and open-minded to all possibilities. “I found an organization that allowed me to spend time face-to-face with the youth and then together they can see if there's a relationship that can blossom,” says John.
During November, a month to recognize the urgent need for adoptive families for children in foster care, Kidsave is calling the media and everyone else to act on this issue.
